Grammy Award winning songwriter, Gary Baker, has made the Shoals his home for over 30 years. The Niagara Falls, NY native moved here to join LeBlanc-Carr, and toured with that group promoting its hit “Falling”.
Following the demise of that band, Baker wrote and recorded with artists ranging from Mac Davis to Marie Osmond before becoming a member of Muscle Shoals’ hit country act, The Shooters.
Alabama’s chart-topping “Once Upon a Lifetime” marked his first Number 1 hit as a songwriter. His Grammy winning “I Swear” was initially a country hit for John Michael Montgomery, and was quickly followed by hip harmony group All-4-One, who carried it to the top of the pop charts.
Working with the country group Lonestar, Baker wrote “I’m Already There”, which ascended to the top of the county charts then crossed over to the pop charts where it reached Number 5. While working with the Backstreet Boys, Baker wrote their Number 1 hit “Anywhere For You “.
Baker has been honored by the Country Radio Music Awards, the Country Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, American Songwriter Magazine, the American Music Awards, NSAI, ASCAP and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.
