Scott Boyer

As a founding member of the group Cowboy, guitarist, singer, songwriter Scott Boyer recorded four albums for Capricorn Records. He was a member of the Capricorn Rhythm Section. For the past 20 years Boyer has been the leader of the Decoys, a Shoals band which recently returned from a tour of Japan with Donnie Fritts.

A native of upstate New York, Boyer lived there and in Kentucky before moving to Florida. While in Florida he studied the Viola at Florida State University. He soon formed a folk-rock group with David Brown and Butch Trucks, later of the Allman Brothers.

As a songwriter, Boyer has written songs that have been recorded by Eric Clapton, Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett, Neil McCoy and many others.

As a guitarist, he has recorded with Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Alex Taylor, Kitty Wells, Tim Wilson and Gregg Almann. Boyer toured with Allman in 1974, following the release of Allman’s “Laid Back” album.

Over the years, Boyer has released a number of recordings both as a soloist, “All My Friends”, with N.C. Thurman “Olds Dogs, New Tracks”, with Mitch McGee “Spring Cove Demos”, and with the Decoys the CD “Shot From The Saddle”.
