Father of the Blues, “W.C. Handy” was born in Florence as was the “Father of Rock and Roll,” Sam Phillips and Buddy Killen. The area became famous in the 1960’s and 70’s as local recording studios cranked out one hit after another from artists such as the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and Percy Sledge.
