Muscle Shoals

A blend of music and waterfront outdoor recreation in Muscle Shoals.

The namesake of the famous “Muscle Shoals Sound,” this riverfront city offers music history and plenty of outdoor fun.

The Muscle Shoals Sound

FAME Recording Studios is one of the highlights of Muscle Shoals. FAME is the home of the world-famous “Muscle Shoals Sound,” which took over the airwaves in the 1960s. So many legends have record smash hits here, including Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, The Rolling Stones and more. Today you can tour the studio and view photos and memorabilia.

Wilson Dam

Don’t miss the impressive Wilson Dam and Wilson Lock, built in 1918 and named for President Woodrow Wilson. Running 1,384 meters across the Tennessee River, the dam generates electricity for the region and more than 3,700 vessels pass through Wilson Lock annually. Visitors may hike or bike along nearby nature trails for views of the dam. The impressive lock system is open to visitors as well on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 7 am - 7 pm.

Outdoors & On the Water

Muscle Shoals offers world-class fishing and boating opportunities on Wilson Lake and nearby Pickwick and Wheeler Lakes. Golfers will love the scenic 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. There’s also nearby Cypress Lakes Golf & Tennis’ 18-hole course with plenty of challenging water features to keep you on your toes.
