Oka Kapassa - Return to Coldwater Native American Festival 2025
The Oka Kapassa – Return to Coldwater Native American Festival, celebrating the culture of the Indigenous peoples who once inhabited the region, will take place in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on September 12-13 in Spring Park. The park is located in the downtown area at 1 Spring Park Rd (South end of Main St.).
Friday’s event is a concert by “Celtic Indian” Arvel Bird, combining his mixed-blood American Indian and Celtic heritage - weaving a musical tapestry through violin, fiddle, Native flutes, Irish whistles, and stories. The park opens at 5:00 p.m. (food available) with the performance at 7:00 p.m. Immediately following the concert there will be a symbolic lighting of torches at water’s edge in remembrance of the Native Americans who were forced to leave their homeland along the infamous “Trail of Tears”.
Saturday, September 13, 10:00 – 5:00, is the full festival day, when authentic Native American culture will be demonstrated through dance in full regalia, music, crafts, life skills and Native American food. Grand Entry is at 11:00. Both events are free. A trolley shuttle is available to and from downtown on Saturday.
