The Florence Indian Mound Museum, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, is sponsoring a virtual speaker series as a part of an effort to raise awareness about looting in the Shoals area. The Shoals Archaeological Stewardship Virtual Speaker Series will feature a different presentation each month from March through October. The second presentation will be Lindsay Bilyeu, who will present her talk on the history of the Choctaw Nation and the importance of historic preservation.

Ms. Bilyeu works for the Historic Preservation Department of the Choctaw Nation and her work involves protecting the Nation’s landscape and historic sites in the southeast and Oklahoma. Ms. Bilyeu states, “these sites are still of upmost importance to the Choctaw Nation and it is our mission to protect these sites and the knowledge that they possess for our future generations.”
