The Pope’s Tavern Speaker Series features presentations about Florence’s early history, from settlement through the Civil War. There will be ten presentations in the first series, spanning December through June.

On January 16th, 2019 at 6pm, Dr. Carrie Barske Crawford, director of the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, will give a presentation on her work with the Sulphur Creek Trestle Preservation Project in Limestone County, Alabama. The Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle, which took place during the Civil War in September 1864, was centered around a bridge on the Alabama and Tennessee Railroad.
